The Flint Center for Educational Excellence is proud to be part of the effort to revitalize and redefine education in the City of Flint. In our role as community engagement coordinator for the new Flint High School planning process, we facilitated listening sessions at schools, and neighborhood and community meetings, bringing together parents, educators, students, and Flint residents to ensure that every voice was heard.
Our goal throughout the process was to foster trust and empower stakeholders to ensure that plans for the new Flint High School reflect the tradition and legacy of the site as well as look to the future of education in Flint.
Through these community engagement events we were able to facilitate interactive sessions to gather input from stakeholders about school design, programming and priorities, and employ digital and print surveys to gather feedback about community needs, concerns and aspirations for the project.
Our surveys and discussion with the surrounding community focused on three topics: historic preservation, traffic flow and safety, to community use of the future facility. It was clear from responses that the neighborhoods adjacent to the new High School campus are hopeful that it will give Flint kids an educational space that prepares them for their futures and that the new building will usher in a new era for Flint Community Schools.
We look forward to helping build that future, one in which every child thrives in an environment built on collaboration, innovation, and respect in partnership.
