FLINT PARENT
COLLABORATIVE
The Flint Parent Collaborative is a dynamic organization that equips and engages families to actively shape their children's education and community.
WHAT WE DO
Developed and led by Flint families, this group goes beyond traditional family engagement roles to create meaningful change and support for students, families, and schools. This is done through:
Current Initiatives
The Parent Collaborative develops and pursues a robust advocacy agenda, tackling important issues that affect education and child welfare. By leveraging the collective voice of families, the group influences policy decisions at the school, district, and even state levels. This advocacy work ensures that parent perspectives are heard and considered in key educational decisions.
The Parent Collaborative works closely with families and educators to foster two-way communication, creating opportunities for parents to engage meaningfully with one another and in their children's learning. This might include organizing workshops on supporting learning at home, facilitating parent-teacher meetings, or creating digital platforms for ongoing communication between families and schools.
A unique aspect of the Parent Collaborative is its commitment to building place-based, two-generational systems of support. Recognizing that a child's success is deeply connected to family well-being, the group develops and advises initiatives that benefit both students and their parents or caregivers, including but not limited to education, workforce development, housing, transportation, economic development, and childcare.
