The Flint Center launches Parent University

The Flint Center for Educational Excellence Community Education Initiative will launch Parent University in partnership with STEMLETICS, as part of its 2Gen family engagement efforts.

Parent University will provide parents with hands-on learning focused on emerging technologies, giving them an opportunity to earn up to four Google AI Certifications upon successful completion of the program.

“This is a great opportunity to deepen family engagement, help our parents build workforce-relevant skills, and create meaningful connections between Flint Center programs and the families we serve,” said Jordan Munerlyn, Director of State and Federal Programs.

“This type of two-generational approach is critical in building stronger family stability and better outcomes for children,” he added.

Sessions will be held on Saturdays in April through June at the Brownell STEM Academy CUBE, and will be facilitated by STEMLETICS, a STEM-accredited educational experience that explores science, technology, engineering and math utilizing a sports-oriented curriculum. Eligible parents include Parent Ambassadors and parents of children attending school at one of the Flint Center’s five 21st Century program sites.

Parent University is made possible by 21st Century Community Learning Center funding through the Flint Center’s Community Education and Thrive Afterschool programs. The cost of participation will be fully covered for parents who maintain at least 95% attendance.

To support parent participation, programming will be provided for school-aged children through STEMLETICS-led e-sports and RoboSoccer activities.
