Our caring staff and community partners provide personalized guidance and support, helping students build strong values and self-confidence. Through programs like Success Mentoring, REAL Talk, and LIT Lounge, students build relationships and networks with their peers and caring adults that have lasting effects in school and beyond.

Thrive Afterschool students delve into exciting book clubs, creative writing workshops, and storytelling sessions to ignite a lifelong love of reading. Programs like the Flint Center’s Reading Ranger’s initiative, offered in partnership with the Springboard Collaborative, are improving and advancing reading outcomes for Flint kids.

All Thrive Afterschool students receive free snacks and meals. Through integrated nutrition education, students learn about nutrition and enjoy tasty, nutritious snacks while staying active through fun fitness challenges. Thrive Afterschool students take part in various health and nutrition education initiatives, including Freeman Food Pantry in collaboration with the Food Bank of eastern Michigan Back Pack Program and Jags Culinary Chefs (culinary career exploration) provided by Southwestern Success Coach.

Students can get moving at Thrive Afterschool through a variety of club sports and games. Programs like Active Dragons, Reaching the Next Level, and Lions in Motion Dance Team promote physical fitness while instilling fundamental teamwork skills.

At Thrive Afterschool, students unleash their creativity through visual arts, music, dance, and drama projects. Through partnerships with organizations like Tapology, Sphinx, and Drippin Honnie Cosmetology, Thrive Afterschool participants have the opportunity to engage in activities that build and refine their skills as artists.

Students engage in hands-on science experiments, coding activities, and engineering challenges that spark curiosity and a love for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Partnerships like Drone Education in partnership with Richard Russel and E-Sports provided by 475 Elite Sports transforms participants in to scientists and explorers through Thrive Afterschool.

Thrive Afterschool participants have regular opportunities to apply lessons they’ve learned through experiential learning opportunities. Curriculum-integrated field trips like Consumers Energy Field Trip (career exploration tour), Flint Public Library (using resources available in the community), and Tapology Field Trip (tap dance workshop at the Flint Institute of Music) broaden students’ horizons while providing unique opportunities to apply and expand their understanding of academic standards.
