Ready Set Succeed

READY SET
SUCCEED

Ready Set Succeed is committed to transforming kindergarten transitions for young children and their families, particularly focusing on Black children in Flint. Launched by the Flint Center for Educational Excellence during the 2023-24 school year, Ready Set Succeed embodies a community-driven, relationship-focused approach that engages all vital stakeholders—families, educators, school leaders, community partners, and the children themselves—to create a culturally responsive and equitable start to school life.

WHAT WE DO

Building bridges and strengthening relationships between Pre-K and kindergarten educators, school leaders, and families, with a focus on racial equity, is the core of the Ready Set Succeed approach. Our approach includes three core components designed to ensure that each child and their support network receive tailored assistance, fostering a smoother transition from preschool to kindergarten. By prioritizing racial equity and amplifying Black family voices, we aim to shift not just experiences but the underlying structures of support throughout the educational journey.

In collaboration with the American Institutes for Research (AIR) and HighScope Educational Research Foundation, we are pioneering a unique framework that tests, refines, and scales effective practices in kindergarten transitions. Our mission is to see meaningful changes in policies, practices, and outcomes, impacting children, families, and schools across Flint.
